There's been a lack of activity around this blog as of lately...
And mostly, that's because there's been a lot of activity going on elsewhere.
At the beginning of August, I opened the doors of my own law practice.
It has been intense and difficult and exciting and terrifying and stressful and expensive and rewarding all at the very same time.
They don't teach you how to run a small business in law school, that's for sure.
Or any kind of school?
So here I am - two months in.
I am far, so very far, from knowing everything.
My to do list remains a steady 129 items long.
I cross one thing off the "work list" and add nine more.
But by the grace of God, we have managed to get this thing off the ground and meet our initial goals.
And while I'm still learning myself, I think I'm finally at the point where I can offer some useful advice to someone considering this path in life - attorney or not.
Oddly enough, starting a small business has both everything and nothing to do with the law.
I'll be sharing our thought process and reasoning behind making this decision,
and why we made the decision to do it now.
I'll be answering questions that I couldn't find the answers to myself when I went looking.
I'll be covering the core essentials and courage needed to chart this path.
And there might even be a guest post or two from my
financial planner/office manager/right hand/husband.
You might be surprised - spreadsheets and business plans have their place here.
But so do peace of mind and quality of life.
This is far from what I thought I would be doing at this point in my life,
but I'm excited to see what this path has in store for our family.
If you've ever wondered, or let your mind dawdle for 90 extra seconds on the possibility of working for yourself and what that might mean for you, your husband, or your children,
I'd encourage you to pop back in over the next month and see what that startup process has looked like for me over the past few months.
It's such a personal process, and that makes it more difficult...but also more rewarding.
I'm so looking forward to getting back in the blogging groove
and sharing this new corner of our life with you.
